Kurama Yama is the mountain where Usui Sensei had
his meditative experience and was given the gift of Reiki.
-
The class is five days long.
-
You will experience the spiritual energies of this sacred mountain and know in your heart why Usui Sensei was guided to this mountain to be given the gift of Reiki.
-
There will be class time on the mountain, including ignitions and Reiki practice.
-
The class will take place at a traditional Japanese Ryokan Inn at the base of Mt. Kurama.
-
Lunch is included either at the lodge or a box lunch when we are on the mountain.
-
The class will also include assistance by a Reiki Master who is fluent in Japanese and English to act as a translator to help us manage our activities.
The five class days will consist of time in the classroom and on the mountain, including one or more Ignitions on the mountain if weather and conditions permit. Please remember that when planning, Japan is 14 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time. You are responsible for your lodging, and we strongly encourage you to book a hotel in northern Kyoto near the Kurama line for an easy commute to the class by train, bus, or taxi. We suggest you use Booking.com or a similar service.
Class fee $4075.00
TThe fee is for the class fee and lunch each class day only. You will also need to add the expenses for your hotel room and your round-trip airline ticket fee to either Tokyo Narita International Airport or Osaka Kansai International Airport and all other travel fees such as hotel, taxi, bus, and train or bus fares to Kurama. To adjust for jetlag, we suggest arriving in Japan 3-5 days early, when you can rest and also do sightseeing. You must also have a valid passport and any other required travel documents. We will supply some travel instructions, but you are responsible for making and verifying all your travel arrangements.
You must have taken Reiki II 6 months or more prior to the date of the class. In addition, during this time, you need to practice and develop a functional level of skill with each of the exercises. Skill with Byosen scanning, Reiji ho, use of the Reiki symbols, and experience giving full Reiki sessions is necessary. Please fax to 248-948-9534 or send as an attached file to center@reiki.org.
Physical Requirements
One requirement is that you must be in good physical condition. There is a 1200-foot elevation gain between the lodge and the top of the mountain. While an optional cable car will take you up part way, there will still be a climb of about 800 feet from the end of the cable car ride to the top of the mountain. Most of this is via stairs and there are places to stop to rest. To get to the top in a reasonable time and feel good when you get there, you need to be involved in an aerobic exercise program that includes stairs to ensure your legs are in good shape. The hike from the end of the cable car ride to the top of the mountain is similar to climbing up the stairs of an 80-story building. So that you understand, this is a very tall building. (As an example, the Empire State Building in NYC is 102 flights of stairs.) And this is done in about an hour. It would be unfortunate for you to travel all that way and then not be able to get to the mountaintop location in time to take part in the Ignitions, class time, and Reiki sharing activity, all of which are required for you to complete the class and receive a certificate.
As of February 2024, no Covid or other travel restrictions exist to enter Japan. However, you are responsible for remaining informed should this situation change. You are also required to read and sign a liability waiver. In Japan, COVID-19 vaccinations and masks are optional. However, many people continue to wear masks indoors and outdoors when closely associated with others. Carefully read and follow the information on this page https://www.insidekyoto.com/can-i-travel-to-japan-now.
