Karen is a Senior Licensed Reiki Master Teacher with the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT), a Mentor Teacher, Co-Director of the Licensed Teacher Training Program, and Assistant Director of Finance for the ICRT. She teaches all Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki levels and the ICRT Animal Reiki classes. Karen began studying Reiki in 1993 and has studied with several ICRT teachers and Japanese Reiki Masters: Hiroshi Doi, Hyakuten Inamoto, and Mrs. Chiyoko Yamaguchi.
In addition to her Reiki practice, she is licensed as a Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist. Karen says, "Reiki has been life-changing for me in many ways, including bringing me closer to God, aligning me with my spiritual purpose, giving me many new friends, enhancing my counseling practice, improving my health, and adding to my career through teaching Reiki and providing sessions. God has abundantly blessed me by following my spiritual path with Reiki."
Karen's Reiki Story
Reiki has changed and improved my life in many wonderful ways! I began studying Reiki with my younger sister in 1993. From there, I studied Reiki II with her Reiki Master in 1995. Then, I took Reiki Master with Laurelle Shanti Gaia of the ICRT in 1998. I was very impressed with the training provided by the ICRT, so I went on to Karuna Master and then repeated Reiki I and II through the ICRT. Since then, I have repeated all my classes several times, studying with William Rand, Beth Stapor, Laurelle Shanti Gaia, Michael Baird, and Colleen Benelli. When I met the ICRT teachers at my first Reiki Retreat in 1999, I wanted to join the organization. I began my requirements to become a Licensed Reiki Master Teacher and applied and was accepted in 2002. The ICRT teachers felt like my soul family.
Before Reiki, I was often sick and frequently had surgeries. Learning and practicing Reiki has continuously improved my health, so I have the best health of my life! Giving myself Reiki daily inspired me to eat healthier and exercise regularly. Previously, I thought a healthy lunch was a blizzard with banana and hot fudge at Dairy Queen!
Reiki has helped me with my spiritual life in many ways. It is easier to meditate and quiet my mind with Reiki; they are an excellent combination. Over the years, Reiki has developed my ability to hear my guidance and sometimes to see what the energy is doing. It is fascinating to share this skill with my clients! I have seen client and student miracles that are awe-inspiring! Reiki can shift my consciousness from stressed to blessed very quickly! Sometimes, the energy flows through me so strongly that I feel overcome by Spirit, and it is such a fantastic feeling. I wonder if I am feeling what some of the Saints have felt.
Reiki has been a lifesaver in parenting, from infancy through adulthood. When my daughter was a baby and child, I could always put her to sleep within 10 minutes by giving her Reiki. That was a very handy skill to have! Reiki helped calm my frustration with parenting challenges and restore my balance. My son had epilepsy, and I sent him Reiki every time he had a seizure and many other times. When he unexpectedly transitioned in 2007 at the age of 22, Reiki helped me with the grief, guilt, and sadness.
Many years ago, I started a work-study program for a few of my students to send distant Reiki to my mother for one hour a week. My mother lived several years longer than anticipated with her health conditions and even improved in health.
If you have life challenges, Reiki is such a necessity! Reiki has helped me through some significant life challenges without the need for antidepressant medication and with the ability to continue my work. My Reiki practice grew immensely through a period of ten difficult years. Reiki also helped those ten years be some of my life's best years.
In 1998, I began sending Reiki to my counseling clients during sessions. In 2000, I started my formal Reiki practice with sessions and teaching. I even gave up teaching graduate courses at the University of Missouri – Kansas City to have time to teach Reiki. Reiki has helped me with my counseling clients in many ways, and I have written about it in the Reiki News Magazine. Reiki also helped me write other articles for the Reiki News Magazine, and I have now written and published several articles. You can access them all for free on my website, www.karenharrison.net.
In the summer of 2001, I traveled to Hawaii and went to Hilo to see where Mrs. Takata had her Reiki clinic. In October, I traveled to Japan with a group led by William Rand to see the Usui Memorial in Tokoyo and Mount Kurama outside of Kyoto. Additionally, we studied Reiki I and II with Mrs. Yamagauchi. She learned Reiki from Dr. Hayashi and practiced it for over 60 years. In October 2002, I traveled to Toronto and attended the Usui Reiki Ryoho International conference. I studied Reiki Master with two esteemed Reiki teachers from Japan: Hiroshi Doi in his Gendai Reiki lineage and Hyakuten Inamoto in his Komoyo Reiki lineage. Hyakuten Inamoto is a student of Mrs. Yamaguchi. In January 2023, I returned to Hilo and revisited Mrs. Takata's Reiki clinic.
Since 2015, I have been blessed to be part of the leadership team of the ICRT and serve the organization in its mission to spread Reiki around the world. We empower world-class Reiki teachers!
Story Conclusion: I love teaching Reiki and feel like I am passing on a ball of loving light and energy that my students can use to help themselves, their pets, their plants, their family, their friends, and the world! Many of my students have gone on to teach others.
I have been abundantly blessed by following my path with Reiki and growing closer to God. My life has become more rewarding, peaceful, and fun. I have made many new friends through teaching Reiki. I love giving Reiki sessions and teaching Reiki, and I can't wait to share them with you!
